TW Consuliting means "The Wa" or The Harmony of Things. We strive to bring harmony to product launches in Japan. TW Principals have launched hundreds of products in Japan and also from Japan in markets around the world. This experience has granted us some unusual perspectives on what makes for a successful product. We found that there was a disconnect between the two cultures where successful products in the US weren’t always successful in Japan and vice et versa. This cultural divide was a problem with understanding the needs of each market. We launched TW Consulting with the promise of bridging this cultural divide and bringing to the Japanese market great products from the US and Europe.
Eric has lived and worked in Japan for 11+ years. First with Nestle in the pet food arena, then with A. T. Cross in the quality writing instrument category and finally with Mattel and Yvolution in the toy and juvenile categories. In his time in Japan, Eric has restructured and turned around three subsidiaries of US consumer products companies. This included laying off and hiring entire new management teams, changing distribution strategies and models, and building upon worldwide core competencies in each assignment. With Yvolution he started their subsidiary from scratch and recruited and hired the local country manager to lead the business after developing and setting the overall business strategy and direction. Eric speaks Japanese and has been the only foreigner in all of his operations in Japan which has led to a deep understanding of the Japanese business practices and methods. He has extensive experience in pet, toys, luxury goods, and food categories and with department store, mass merchant, category killers (like TRU), home centers, bicycle and sporting goods retail channels in Japan. He has an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School and a BA from Claremont McKenna College.
